Abaco Lodge is the only fly fishing operation located directly on the Marls - a vast labyrinth of shallow flats, mangrove cays, and scattered islands stretching across more than 240 square miles of the western side of Great Abaco Island. The Marls are so immense that thirteen Manhattans could fit within its borders. Inside those borders lives one of the most prolific bonefish populations in the Caribbean. The lodge sits directly on the water, meaning no trailering and no fuel stops. Step away from the breakfast table, walk down to the dock, and within minutes you're gliding across clear water in search of cruising bonefish. Runs to the flats range from 10 to 45 minutes depending on tides and destination - guides with intimate knowledge of every corner of this vast fishery determine the daily plan based on conditions and guest preferences. Bonefish average 3–4 pounds across the Marls, with larger fish in the 5–10 pound class appearing regularly in good light. Days of 15–20 fish are not uncommon. The system also offers regular permit and juvenile tarpon opportunities, with barracuda and several shark species adding variety. For those who want offshore action, the lodge can arrange bluewater charters targeting marlin, sailfish, dorado, wahoo, and tuna.
