about checkpoint

I spent 18 months guiding in the Seychelles.

I guided anglers from all over the world through some of the most extraordinary saltwater fly fishing on earth. Over that time I built relationships with lodges and guides across the Indian Ocean and beyond — and I learned exactly what separates a good trip from an exceptional one.

Checkpoint exists to connect serious anglers with the right destination, in the right season, with a clear picture of what to expect when they get there.

The name

Why Checkpoint?

'Checkpoint' is a famous spot situated about 1km inside the lagoon of Astove's Atoll. The flat is characterized by two main channels which feed further up the lagoon — a natural passage for fish to move with the tides.

During my time on Astove, this spot was responsible for some of the most incredible GT and permit opportunities I've seen in my time in the Seychelles.

The name felt appropriate for the vision of this platform.

The best of the best

I've had the privilege of guiding on two of the world's finest saltwater destinations — but Checkpoint covers far more ground than that, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

Every destination beyond the Seychelles is written by a guide who knows those waters the way I know Alphonse and Astove — not researched from a desk, but lived on the water.

Every listing goes through the same process — personally reviewed, honestly assessed, and only recommended if we'd book it ourselves.
